Community shortcuts
Nashville's Indian food scene has exploded in recent years, and Franklin has quietly built a scene of its own along Carothers Parkway. Whether you are craving a slow-cooked North Indian curry, a crisp masala dosa, or a biryani worth driving across town for, the Music City has you covered.
Here are our ten picks across Nashville and Franklin, from a celebrity chef dining room in the Gulch to a biryani counter in Cool Springs. Every spot is a place our community actually eats, with the exact dishes to order when you go.
1. Chauhan Ale & Masala House
Chef Maneet Chauhan's Gulch dining room is still the splurge pick in town, mixing North Indian classics with Southern touches you will not find anywhere else. Book it for a birthday or a date night when a plain curry will not do.
Must Try: Tandoori Chicken Poutine, Gol Guppa Shots, Gulab Jamun Cheesecake. Vibe: Sophisticated, high-energy, special occasion.
2. Tailor Nashville
Vivek Surti's Germantown tasting room serves a South Asian American menu that changes with the seasons, built partly on his Gujarati roots. It is reservation only, dinner Thursday to Sunday, and unlike any other meal in Tennessee.
Must Try: The seasonal tasting menu, Dhokla when it appears. Vibe: Intimate, chef-driven, special occasion.
3. Sitar Indian Cuisine
Sitar has been a Midtown fixture on 21st Avenue for years, and regulars who started coming in their college days now bring their kids. One bite of the garlic naan and you understand the loyalty.
Must Try: Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala. Vibe: Family casual, old reliable.

4. Bombay Palace
On West End, Bombay Palace is the buffet pick. The spread runs from tandoori chicken to a chicken vindaloo with real heat, and the garlic chilli naan lands hot at the table.
Must Try: Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Vindaloo, Garlic Chilli Naan. Vibe: Buffet, family casual.

5. Woodlands Indian Vegetarian Cuisine
Fully vegetarian and proudly South Indian, Woodlands on West End does the classics right: a paper masala dosa that crackles, soft idli, and a gobi Manchurian that brings the Indo-Chinese kick.
Must Try: Paper Masala Dosa, Gobi Manchurian, Idli. Vibe: Family casual, pure vegetarian.
6. 615chuTNey
Out in Bellevue, 615chuTNey cooks the Chettinad food of Tamil Nadu the slow way, right down to dosa batter prepared over three days. The chicken Chettinad brings the black pepper heat the region is famous for.
Must Try: Masala Dosa, Chicken Chettinad, Chutneyville Chicken Biryani. Vibe: Family casual, worth the drive.
7. House of India
Franklin's most polished Indian dining room pairs a daily lunch buffet with a room nice enough for birthdays and visiting parents. Better still, the kitchen does not dumb down the spice for the Cool Springs crowd.
Must Try: Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan. Vibe: Buffet at lunch, date friendly at dinner.
8. Persis Biryani Indian Grill
The Carothers Parkway spot long known as Namaste now trades as Persis, and the headline act is Hyderabadi dum biryani, sealed and slow-cooked the proper way. Come hungry on Sundays, when the buffet goes all out.
Must Try: Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, Bullet Naan, Chicken Lollipop. Vibe: Buffet, family casual, full bar.
9. Bawarchi Biryani Point
If biryani is the whole point of the meal, Bawarchi on Bakers Bridge is your Franklin stop. Regulars single out the lamb biryani, and the weekend goat dum biryani has a following of its own.
Must Try: Lamb Biryani, Boneless Chicken Biryani, Goat Dum Biryani on weekends. Vibe: Family casual, biryani specialist.
10. Cafe India
Part restaurant, part bakery, all hustle. Cafe India on International Drive covers North and South under one roof, with tiffins and dosas at one end of the menu and fresh cakes, including a much loved Black Forest, at the other.
Must Try: Boneless Chicken Biryani, Chicken 555, Black Forest Cake. Vibe: Quick service, takeout friendly, bakery counter.
